The Art Institute of Chicago Teen Council is a group of 15 creative and passionate youth artists, leaders, and organizers who collaborate with museum staff to design programs and resources that reimagine the future of cultural institutions and make the museum a more welcoming, accessible, and relevant space for Chicagoland youth.

Teen Council is a paid internship program open to all teenagers enrolled in Chicagoland high schools that runs from September to June every year. Participants meet primarily in person on Saturdays, with occasional virtual check-in meetings on Wednesday evenings. Selected students are expected to commit 3–4 hours a week.

  • Anticipated Pay: $16.20/hour

Eligibility Requirements

Applicants must be:

  • High school students from the Chicago area
  • Eligible to be paid in the United States
  • Creative youth leaders or organizers within their community
  • Passionate about art with a desire to share that passion with other teens

The Art Institute of Chicago is a world-renowned art museum housing one of the largest permanent collections in the United States. The Art Institute collects, preserves, and displays works in every medium from all cultures and historical periods. With a collection of more than 260,000 artworks and artifacts, the museum has particularly strong holdings in Impressionist and Post-Impressionist painting, early twentieth-century European painting and sculpture, contemporary art, Japanese prints, and photography. In addition to displaying its permanent collection, the Art Institute holds approximately forty special exhibitions per year and features daily lectures, gallery tours, and special performances.
