The Blue Ridge Highlands Regional Science Fair is an annual science competition open to students in grades 6-12 who attend Virginia schools in the counties of Bland, Buchanan, Carroll, Dickenson, Giles, Grayson, Lee, Montgomery, Pulaski, Russell, Scott, Smyth, Tazewell, Washington, Wise, Wythe and the cities of Bristol, Galax, and Norton. Students in grades 6-8 compete in the Junior Division, while students in grades 9-12 compete in the Senior Division.
The Grand Award winners (the top two Senior Division projects) will compete in the International Science and Engineering fair (ISEF) fair in May. The First Place winners in each senior category will receive an invitation to participate in the Virginia State Science and Engineering Fair in April. The First Place winners in each junior category will receive an invitation to submit an application to compete in the Thermo Fisher Scientific Junior Innovative Challenge in October.
