The Boston Leadership Institute’s three week STEM Entrepreneurship hands-on program covers what it takes to start a new business in:

  • Science
  • Technology
  • Engineering
  • Mathematics

Students generate innovative and forward-thinking product ideas, explore viable opportunities and markets, and learn to write a sales pitch and business plan. After they master the stages of pursuing the business idea, students learn about different ways to raise capital and manage the finances of a fledgling business. Our instructor will introduce the Sunflower Model to detail the stages of building a start-up company using a core, petal, and stem analogy. The program is available in person and online.

  • Students must be teens in 8th grade or higher.
  • Students must be US citizens.

Application or Entry Requirements

  • Information about coursework and G.P.A.
  • A statement of no more than 250 words answering why the Boston Leadership Institute a good fit for you, why are you interested in attending, which programs you are considering the most strongly and why, and information about your interests, experiences, career/life goals, or activities that have contributed to your desire to attend and program choice(s). 

Accepted students will be required to send a copy of their report card to verify coursework.

Notifications of Decisions

Financial Aid Details

Students must meet the following criteria to be eligible for scholarships:

  • US Resident
  • Rising Senior in High School
  • Enrolled in, or have completed, a minimum of 3 Honors, AP, or IB science courses in High School
  • Have a minimum grade of B+ or higher in the aforementioned classe
  • Have a minimum overall GPA of 3.7
  • Have a household income of $60,000 or less.

OR the student must be:

  • A Massachusetts resident
  • Rising sophomore, junior, or senior in High School
  • Have a minimum overall GPA of 3.7
  • Have a household income of $60,000 or less

The Boston Leadership Institute (BLI) is a summer program for high school students interested in STEM fields. Founded in 2012, BLI offers a variety of hands-on research programs in areas such as biotechnology, engineering, and medicine and gives students the opportunity to work with top scientists and researchers in the Boston area during one- or three-week programs.
