As a student at BUTI, you become part of the Tanglewood continuum – a rich and expanding family of artists. From your peer musicians in training to teachers who inspire, all the way through to the TMC Fellows, members of the BSO, and rock stars in the field, you can see yourself every step of the way. All it takes is one summer and you’ll forever be a part of this community of artists, educators, leaders, and advocates. What you’ll all share is the Tanglewood experience. From BUTI to the BSO and beyond, your future is right here.

When it comes to deciding how to spend your summer, the options can seem endless. But if you’re looking to be the most dynamic and versatile musician possible, BUTI is the place to be. You will have the opportunity to hone your craft in a small group setting. You’ll focus on the fundamentals of technique and musicianship, work alongside new friends in group masterclasses, participate in individual lessons and academic classes, and perform. And beyond an exceptional music education, what makes a summer at BUTI unforgettable is the magic of Tanglewood.

Two-week workshops accommodate students ages 14-20, while BUTI’s Young Artists Programs accommodate students’ ages 14-19 who have not yet started college. Students under the age of 14 are eligible to apply for workshops and young artists programs, but students within the recommended age range will receive preferential admission.

Participants can choose one or more of the following areas of study:

Young Artists Programs  July 6 – August 17, 2025

Eligibility Requirements

  • BUTI is open to U.S. Citizens and International students of all backgrounds. You must be between the ages of 14 and 20 during the summer of your participation. There are specific age requirements depending on the program(s) you’re interested in applying for:
    • Two-week workshops accommodate students ages 14-20 at the time of the program. A freshman or sophomore enrolled in college who meets the age requirements can attend a two-week workshop.
    • BUTI’s Young Artists Programs accommodate students’ ages 14-19 who have not yet started coursework in a post-secondary degree program (such as a college or conservatory). This means that students are eligible for the summer after they graduate high school, before they begin college classes. If a student is taking part-time college-level classes while in high school, they are still eligible as long as their full-time enrollment is at the high school level.
