The best way to learn something new is to immerse yourself both mentally and physically. That’s what happens in Brown Experiential Education (BEE) programs. You’ll find these programs to be immersive and rigorous academic experiences, with program locations carefully selected to enhance course content. Learning is rich and experiential as you physically link your studies with your surroundings. The programs’ interdisciplinary approach will help prepare you for the increasingly complex challenges of the 21st century: you’ll discover the interconnectedness of the global community by exploring new places and considering varied perspectives.

BEE offers two locations in 2026:

  • Barcelona, Spain: Barcelona is a vibrant Mediterranean city well known for its abundance of culture, food and architecture. You will engage with the past and present of the city through its buildings and language by exploring its neighborhoods and learning about specific sites that helped make the city what it is today. Barcelona’s urban design reflects a commitment to honoring its roots as a community of Catalonia while embracing its place as the second largest city in Spain. As you explore Barcelona you will experience the presence and connection between the cultures and languages of Catalonia and Spain, while gaining a deeper understanding of how modern European cities have developed. You will participate in two courses during your time in Barcelona: Immersive Intermediate Spanish and Barcelona in Ten Buildings.
  • Oxford, England: Oxford is one of the world’s most iconic university cities, renowned for its centuries-long tradition of scientific discovery and innovation. Explore its historic colleges, cutting-edge research institutes, and thriving biotech ecosystem in an unparalleled setting where biology and technology converge. As you walk the cobblestone streets that inspired some of science’s greatest minds, you’ll see how history and modern research come together to shape the future of medicine. During your time in Oxford, you’ll follow the path of discovery as ideas move from university labs to biotech companies and into clinical care. Through interactive site visits and conversations with experts, you’ll gain a deeper understanding of how breakthroughs in biotechnology and AI/ML spark real-world innovation. A focused day in London will broaden your perspective, connecting Oxford’s vibrant research community to the global scientific landscape.
