The Central Virginia Regional Science Fair is open to Virginia students in grades 9-12 who attend schools in Amherst County, Appomattox County, Bedford County, Campbell County, and Lynchburg City Schools. Winning projects have the opportunity to move on to the Virginia State Science and Engineering Fair and/or the International Science and Engineering Fair (ISEF). 

The research categories are:

  • Environmental Sciences

  • Physics & Astronomy
  • Plant Sciences

Location(s)

  • Central Virginia Community College, Lynchburg, Virginia

Schedule

  • Annually in March

Cost/Compensation

  • Regional School Divisions pay an affiliation fee, while private schools and home school student projects pay a per project fee (amounts not known).

Eligibility Requirements

  • Students in grades 9-12 who attend schools in Amherst County, Appomattox County, Bedford County, Campbell County, and Lynchburg City Schools in Virginia.

  • Completed online registration form
  • Research Plan/Project Summary
  • Abstract
  • Approval forms
  • Any applicable additional forms for projects that require pre-approval by a Scientific Review Committee (SRC) because they deal with Human Subjects, Vertebrate Animals, and/or Potentially Hazardous Biological Agents.

The Central Virginia Regional Science Fair (CVRSEF) is a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting and supporting scientific inquiry and discovery among students in central Virginia. Established to provide a platform for young scientists to showcase their research projects, CVRSEF hosts an annual science fair where students present their investigations across various scientific disciplines. The organization collaborates with local schools, businesses, and universities to provide resources, mentorship, and judging for participants.
