The Greater Austin Regional Science and Engineering Fair is one of Texas’ largest regional science fairs with almost 3,000 students from 3rd through 12th grade. It encourages and rewards innovative student research and provides scientists, engineers and other professionals a chance to volunteer in the community.

The Fair has three divisions: 

  • Elementary Division: Grades 3-6
  • Junior Division: Grades 6-8
  • Senior Division: Grades 9-12

Winning Junior/Senior Division projects advance to the Texas Science and Engineering Fair. Best of Fair Senior Division projects advance directly to the Regeneron International Science and Engineering Fair (ISEF).

Cost/Compensation

  • $25 registration fee

Eligibility Requirements

  • Students of public, charter, private, and home schools from these counties in Central Texas whose projects won at their schools’ science fairs: Bastrop, Brazos, Burleson, Caldwell, Colorado, Comanche, Fayette, Lavaca, Lee, Mills, Travis, Washington, Williamson, and northern Hays counties.
  • Homeschooled students and students from schools who have not participated in the past, must submit a request to participate.

  • Junior Division: Safety and Consent Form
  • Senior Division (form requirements will vary based on research topic): 
    • Checklist for Adult Sponsor (1) 
    • Student Checklist (1A) 
    • Research Plan/Project Summary Instructions Approval Form (1B) 
    • Regulated Research Institutional/Industrial Setting Form (1C) - 2 pages 
    • Qualified Scientist Form (2) 
    • Risk Assessment Form (3) Human Participants Form (4) 
    • Human Informed Consent Form Vertebrate Animal Form (5A) 
    • Vertebrate Animal Form (5B) 
    • Potentially Hazardous Biological Agents Risk Assessment Form (6A) 
    • Human and Vertebrate Animal Tissue Form (6B)
    • Continuation/Research Progression Projects Form (7)

The Austin Science Education Foundation (ASEF) is a non-profit organization that promotes students' knowledge of and involvement in Science, Technology, Engineering and Math by preparing them and teachers for the Greater Austin Regional Science and Engineering Fair, conducting the fair, and supporting students selected to advance to subsequent competitions.
