Join other teens aged between 15 and 17 in Gandoca, an indigenous reserve on Costa Rica’s Caribbean coast, home to the Bribri tribe and one of the most biodiverse ecosystems in the world. Learn what it takes to become an international conservationist while exploring the rainforests that line the Caribbean coast and assist researchers working to protect wild cats and other important species.
You will live and work in the local Gandoca community, exploring the region’s jungles, lagoons, mangrove forests, and beaches. You will hike, swim and boat across all these habitats, learning how to identify wildlife, including monkeys, tropical birds, raptor, reptiles, wild cats, sloths, amphibians. You will also work on a sea turtle nesting project that helps protect turtle nests and guide hatchlings to the ocean. And you will contribute to various other local projects, like beach clean-ups, sustainable farms, community gardens, and recycling initiatives. You will also have the opportunity to spend time with and learn from the indigenous Bribri tribe on an overnight trip in their community.
