The Harvard Student Agencies Summer Academies are one-week academic enrichment programs for high school students held on Harvard's campus. The Academies are taught by Harvard undergraduate students to help orient high school students to a pre-professional field of their choice.
The Pre-Med Academies teach students clinical skills from guest speakers and Harvard Medical School students, help them develop a deep understanding of what it is like to study medicine, and allow them to explore medical specialties from cardiology to immunotherapy.
There are two Pre-Med options:
- Biology & Chemistry: The Biology and Chemistry Academy provides an opportunity for students to learn about genetics, immunology, CRISPR, and organic chemistry. Students will gain an important medical background and take a deep dive into various diseases. The strong curriculum allows students to gain a better understanding of what being pre-med entails. This Academy culminates in a final presentation about a disease or genetic disorder, bringing together all the new skills our students learn throughout the program.
- Anatomy & Physiology: The Human Anatomy and Physiology Academy provides an opportunity for students to gain knowledge about the various systems of the body. Learning about blood work and how to read medical images, including X-rays and MRIs, will prepare students for a case study analysis, where they will be put in the shoes of a team of emergency room medical workers. The strong curriculum allows students to not only learn about anatomy and physiology but also gain a better understanding of what being pre-med entails.
Additionally, The Academies are uniquely positioned to foster connections between students and Harvard undergraduate mentors. The Academies run from 9:00am-5:00pm Monday through Friday in the summer in Harvard's classrooms.
