Students are encouraged to submit manuscripts related to Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Engineering, Technology, Sociology, Economics, Political Science, Music, Dance, Theater and/or an amalgamation of these disciplines.

Eligibility Requirements

  • High school students in grades 9-12 
  • Submitted manuscripts must not have been published previously or be currently under consideration for publication elsewhere. 
  • Authors must obtain permission from the publisher for any illustration or table copied or adapted from previously published material.

Application or Entry Requirements

  • Submit one electronic file of manuscript including all text and tables, in Word.doc format. The file name cannot be longer than 30 characters, and should contain only letters or numbers. Do not use punctuation or symbols in the file name. The file size cannot exceed 8 MB.
  • Submit FIGURES separately from the word.doc file. Figures must be of sufficiently high resolution. Multiple Figures can be submitted in a single separate file.
  • Authors must cite the source of any quotation or statement inserted in the manuscript.
  • Include a statement of ethics approval for animal and human data if applicable.
  • Ensure that the manuscript has been proofread and spell checked.
  • Manuscript should include title, authors’ complete first and last (family) name, address (including city, province or state, country), and e-mail address.

Notifications of Decisions

  • Review takes a minimum of four weeks due to the volume of submissions.

The Journal of High School Science (JHSS) is a peer reviewed STEAM Journal that publishes research and ideas of high school students. The journal endeavors to publish content that improves upon, expands, and cogently speculates upon the existing corpus of knowledge, which is preferably quantifiable.
