Over four weeks, you’ll explore and experiment with a range of photographic genres and techniques to develop your unique perspective and artistic practice. You’ll build a solid foundation in both the digital and traditional darkrooms, and learn historic processes, lighting techniques, and additional hand-crafted techniques like bookmaking and/or alternative digital printmaking.
Class days will consist of demonstrations, hands-on real-world practice and exercises, discussions and lectures, critiques, and plenty of field trips around beautiful midcoast Maine. Be prepared for structured, busy days that cover a lot of material, and are also saturated in fun, creative, and social time.
Gaining a sense of your artistic voice and style, you will be guided to build a small, cohesive portfolio that demonstrates your interests and ideas.

Scholarships are available for young artists and adults based on financial need and artistic merit. Specific scholarships are funded by foundations and individual donors, many of whom are alumni of our programs or parents or friends of alumni. They’ve seen the transformative power of the Maine Media experience, and have decided to “pay it forward.”
