During your internship in Nepal, you’ll rotate through various hospitals in the Chitwan District. Although one of the more developed cities in Nepal, Chitwan still has many rural areas and a large portion of it is covered by lush green forest. There is a wide scope for you to observe and learn while you are in Nepal. Here are a few of the tasks you’ll be involved in:
- Observe the work of professional medical staff as you rotate through several different hospitals
- Attend lectures at a teaching hospital that will help you improve your basic medical skills
- Experience life in Nepal while learning more about the country’s history and culture
- Form lifelong friendships with other high school interns with similar interests
Since this internship is mainly observational, you’ll have the opportunity to shadow medical staff in many different departments. By doing so, you’ll be exposed to many different fields of medicine, which may even influence the direction you’ll take with a specialization someday. A few of the medical fields you’ll learn about include:
- Physical therapy
- Family planning
- Eye health
- Cancer treatments
Your supervisors have put together an itinerary that is the perfect balance between medical work experience and adventure. They will accompany you throughout your stay and ensure you get to see more of what Nepal has to offer before you leave. You’ll get to see a few of the famous national parks, visit traditional Buddhist temples, and learn how to cook Nepalese dumplings.
