Rising high school juniors and seniors with an interest in sports and media are encouraged to apply to the Carolina Sports Journalism Camp. This three-day residential camp includes instructional sessions in sports broadcasting, sports writing, sports videography and more. Students will be housed on UNC-Chapel Hill’s campus.
The Carolina Sports Journalism Camp also includes classroom study and practice in the field and will feature sports reporters and sports personalities. Students take a behind-the-scenes tour of UNC’s sports media facilities. They cover a press conference, write a sports feature story and experience what it’s like to work on a sports media deadline.

- After the priority deadline has passed, applications will be accepted as space allows, through May 1st, 2025
Application or Entry Requirements
- A completed online application
- Contact information for 2 references (who verify academic information is correct, certify that the essay below is solely the work of the student, and endorse the student for participation in the camp)
- References must include your guidance counselor, and one teacher
- Short essay
- Optional: Additional materials
- A letter of reference from either a journalism teacher or an athletics coach
- An additional sample of your work. Suggestion: You might submit a script you wrote for your school newscast or an article you wrote for your school newspaper, yearbook, online news site or community newspaper
- A list of your Twitter and/or Instagram handles and a link to a blog site (if you have one)
