The US History Bee is a buzzer-based, individual social studies quiz competition focusing exclusively on American history for primary and secondary school students across the United States. The US History Bee is administered by International Academic Competitions and puts an emphasis on what students are learning in the classroom and rewards their passion for learning.
Students in elementary school and up are welcome to compete. At the high school level, The National History Bee features two divisions: Varsity and Junior Varsity. The division breakdown is as follows:
- Varsity: 11th or 12th grade
- Junior Varsity: 10th grade and younger
The Varsity / JV US History Bee consists of two stages. The first is the National Qualifying Exam, which students can take either at an IAC Regional competition site in person, or online. The National Qualifying Exam is a 50 question multiple choice exam. The second is the buzzer-based quiz event at the IAC National Championships, which take place in spring (typically late April).
The Middle and Elementary School Divisions of the US History Bee are contested solely at the IAC Middle and Elementary School National Championships in June. These Divisions are open to anyone in 8th grade or younger who has qualified for the National Championships of the National History Bee.
